This year over half my work is going to be in training and safety guidelines for Pivotal machines. And making sure all studios have decent Pivotal units on the floor working alongside, not in competition with Lineal machines.
That side of the industry has been poorly neglected and seems to be run by "fear of losing a sale" over creating a healthy mature industry. It has been sad to watch ignorance and greed triumph over common sense, but some standards will be set this year that will change all of that.
I can only apologize for thinking they would ever work together.
I will be working closely with a few existing Pivotal companies to bring like minded industry players together, and form alliances that will speed up our goal of making all forms of Vibration Training a safe and reliable form of exercise.

If he was in just the standing lock-legged position at 25hz, I would call this an extreme pose and it is very violent on the internal organs. It is possible it may have caused some acid reflux. In that case some anti-acid tablets should calm it down. If the pain continues than he really needs a check-up.
12 hz and under are much less likely to cause these issues, and even just slightly bending the knees will reduce this further.
The chances of it being a hiatal hernia is very slim unless he had an underlying condition.

I have treated a 24 year old patient with no complaints of GI problems on a pivital at about 24 hz for 10 min., just standing, and he developed epigastric pain and later heart burn. I reduced it to 15 hz for 10 min on the next visit and the epigastic discomfort was less but the heartburn returned. Is this possibly a hiatal hernia

Lloyd or others, have you heard anything about the Wave Vibration machines
A chiropractor friend just purchased one for training use within his office and I was trying to find reviews of different machines for possible home purchase. I am concerned because it appears there are a lot of poor quality machines out there and a lot of claims regarding specifications that appear to be false.

Lloyd, none of the staff at our busy studio recall being asked about the research – interesting question, and as Mike suggests clients can make up their own minds on whether they think it benefits them or not regardless of academics and so called experts.
We have clients who have been coming since our studio opened 6 years ago, and many more long term clients together with an ever increasing client base. They are not doing so because of research, they do so because it works for them.

May have been asked once about specific research about a specific condition, Pompei disease, but think that's it in the two and a half years we've been open. Guess UK also not fussed about research.

I never get asked that question...
I think after people experience the workout they dont really care what the scientific community think or say.
Your body does not lie to you, i guess like the bodybuilders of old, they kept lifting weights regardless as they knew through experience what they where doing worked.

Welcome Back – it’s the second week of 2011 and time to get back into regular Vibration Training (for those who took time off over the Holiday Season)
We have a notice up in the studio which reads-
“Welcome back from Your Holiday. If the alcohol has fried your Brain, Recheck on the Posters BEFORE you start each Pose”
I’m adding this here to the discussion board to remind all trainers to be very strict on customers as we start a new year. People tend to come back in relaxed holiday mode and slack off in how well they get into and hold positions. We must fully supervise them and come down hard on any out-of-position problems immediately. Together with our customers we will see even more of our great results this year (specifically talking to Vibra-Train trainers).
I’m already seeing super results with a very new customer. It’s going to be a great year!

If you type ........ " Lloyd Shaw" " Vibra-Slim" ....... into Google you will be able to track our fight with them over the years.
But you may wonder why I attack a more high profile company like Power Plate more than Vibra-Slim. Who are doing far more damage to our industry than any other company.
(1) Power Plate do not change their name., because it is trademarked. Vibra-Slim were getting to much bad press at one stage they simply changed it to Europlate. So you have to be careful putting in a lot of effort at this stage of the game on a moving target. I will wait until I have a lot more influence so they cant outrun us.
(2) Getting people to understand if a so called "top" company selling in a well known shop can be very dishonest. Fabricating endorsements, having a fake medical advisory board, telling people they are built in Europe instead on India etc.... Then it makes the consumer much more wary of the discount companies claims only trading online.
It is very easy to fall into the " If its cheaper it must be bad, and if its more expensive it must be good " message. Too simplistic and not the truth.
It is unfortunate that the honest ones amongst us then need to fight for recognition, but that is what this site was put up for. To give the honest ones a platforms to be heard from. And we have much more chance of being believed by the consumer if it is a bunch of industry people crying out for accountability and honesty, instead of one lone voice. Then it just sounds like sour grapes.
If we all work hard to make this site #1 it will become a very powerful tool for good. And I think any fears about me misusing that power should be well and truly be buried by now, after 7 years of me never selling out.
The only people who will fear us are those with something to hide.

Don’t be fooled – the same article is all over the web and yes, Kevin Rellis is a VibraSlim marketer. In Feb 07 someone posted a review by Kevin Rellis onto one of the blogcritics articles forum
http://blogcritics.org/scitech/article/the-healthy-skeptic-debunking-the-myth/comments-page-2/
Thanks Anonymous – but I do disagree about only buying from companies that sell through major stores or have reviews/studies done on their machine. Unfortunately that doesn’t necessarily follow that the product is as per the specs or will do as the advertising says. Try before you buy is what I tell people and don’t just try one machine – it might feel weird but exciting; try as many as you can, brands and types. Research and ask questions before you buy.
As Lloyd has written – in 2011 we still have work to do; Cleaning up the industry and Standardising the programs used and the machines. Honest companies will do well, others are going to fall over bigtime this year.
I’m very excited especially as Vibration Training and Therapy is now well known in New Zealand – not seen as fly-by-night or odd anymore. I’ve had so many new customers this summer and their results still amaze me – I shouldn’t even be amazed; I know the results will happen but I’m seeing it more often as people really commit to a season of training (and then a lifetime once they see the results) rather than as sometimes happened before, people just start to get results then rush off to try something new. Standardising was a part of this even at Vibra-Train Auckland City, as we now require customers to buy a block of 11 sessions (10 + 1 free) and generally don’t allow casual studio visits. We owe it to our customers to enforce this to ensure they get the results they are have come for and are paying for.

You make lots of good points anonymous. I would however disagree with your points about only buying if the machine is sold in retail shops. Here in the uk very few good brands are sold retail. The likes of John Lewis, a very reputable department store, only sold powerplates last time I looked. The majority of decent brands here go the uk are not sold retail. I'm also not sure about the BBB. Are Vibratrain, Bodyshaker and Vibrogym listed on there? It sounds like your advice might leading customers towards buying a powerplate. Are they listed on the BBB? Are Hypergravity? Apologies for not checking myself yet, and also if your intentions are good. There just seems to be a touch of wolf in sheep's clothing here.

I posted something simple but hopefully effective ( if they put it up ) ....
Two simple questions..
(1) Have VibraSlim in the past been involved in selling cheap equipment from Asia ?
(2) Have VibraSlim been involved in selling machines with fake specs ?
I think you will find they are guilty of both, so seem to be the very thing you are warning customers about.

Anonymous ....
Vibra-Slim / EuroPlate ... are on our Blacklist for those exact reasons.
I would like to clarify I have no issue with Asian built units simply because of the source. But similar to the other household products you listed ( blenders , radios etc... ) , when they were first released were very bad quality. In fact 'Made In Japan" meant automatically crappy at one stage in retail history, The quality increased due to demand.
When I first entered the industry no-one was demanding better quality. And in fact Power Plate were themselves releasing machines from China that broke down in only a few weeks. Instead of trying to fix the problem, they nastily threatened people with law-suits to shut them up.
The fact is Power Plate started the whole cheap crappy fake specs machine market, before them only good products were available. No matter what dishonest thing you find other companies doing now, I can show you evidence of Power Plate doing it first. So I have a list of reasons to not trust and dislike them and so should anyone serious about this industry.
A lot of Asian manufacturers compound the problem by continuing to deliberately list fake specs on their machines to fool everybody ( or they were simply copying off lineal companies advertising ) I really do not care which. . Eg......You will still find some Pivotal machines with claims of 50hz on them. None of that was going to stop by itself and companies like Galileo who had the most to lose did what ? A big fat nothing, even though I personally asked them to go on the defensive.
In my opinion they deserve to lose their market share.
It is the above mentality ( gutless wonders on one side and lying marketers on the other ) we had to attack until the consumer got wise enough to demand better products themselves. And even know what to ask for. That along with some other ethical players finally entering the market and spreading the word, will help us reach our goal of enough "general consumer knowledge" to clean up the market.
I agree on all points in regards to companies retailing machines.
Note: I think it is important to understand how important the studio concept is in all of this. Very similar to gyms vs home gym equipment, it helps create expectations of quality and results in the consumer. Home gym equipment would not even exist if it were not for the popularity and proven effectiveness of commercial gyms.

To all the supporters of vibration training advice.com I found this press release and it truly bothered me. http://www.usnewssource.com/press-releases/the-whole-body-vibration-exercise-machine-review-2011_56626.html
Its essentially written as unbiased yet concludes to support Vibraslim Europlate. Im not dogging the product but rather the malicious tactics that are used to mislead a customer into buying their product. Read the news release and you will see how shady it is. 1. They warn not to buy chinese made products yet the product they promote is made in China. Does that mean they lie to thier customers about where thier product is made... Hmmm a little unethical dont you think. Then they go on to liken thier product to some of the more well known products such as Powerplate and Turbosonic. Lloyd, I know you have your beef with PowerPlate for many reasons. Yet from a customer service standpoint here in the United States, they keep to thier word. I am not promoting them so to speak in my response to the article, rather just pointing out that they are far more reputable than Vibraslim.
I am copying my reply to this article here. If anyone feels the need to comment or add to what I said.... I encourage you to speak out your thoughts on the article here or on the comments section of the press release.
My responseis as follows"""""""""""""""""""""
Ok, since you won’t post my original article- I’ll re-write it for you!
I feel that this article is undoubtedly bias towards your preference to the Vibraslim Europlate. You warn customers about avoiding Chinese products yet Vibraslim Europlate is made in China and is branded under Powervibe and others here in the U.S. I’m frankly disgusted with all these internet based vibration companies stating that “Chinese made vibration machines are all bad”. Nearly every vibration machine on the market here in the US is made in China, Korea, India, or Taiwan. For that matter part or all of the treadmills and ellipticals from major brand name fitness companies are made in China. Like anything else people its the way of our western world to outsource and bring prices down for you the customer and sustainable profits for manufacturers. Its a non-sense term that so many of these vibration machine companies use to differentiate themselves from all of the bad reviews of many cheaply made Chinese products. Yet heres the ticker–there are various levels of quality from Chinese built products. Look around your household at the blender, toaster, vaccum cleaner, etc. All of which were probably made in China, have been running strong for years and saved you a bundle of money. The difference here with vibration machines is once again quality, the company who sourced the product, their reputation for customer service, their distribution channels, and their testing of the product.
The author of this article tries to liken the internet based, chinese made Vibraslim Europlate to major companies products like the Powerplate and the Korean based Turbosonic. Here are the major differences- Powerplate is a huge company held by J.H. Whitney corporation. They are financially backed, sold internationally with distribution through major fitness retailers, and they have published research on their machines. From experience in the fitness community I recommend you stick to companies that are sold through brick and mortar locations( Retail stores).
Every year fitness retail store owners attend trade shows where manufacturers like Precor, Lifefitness, Powerplate, Lifespan, Octane, Stairmaster, Medvibe-Nitrofit, Startrac, Freemotion–etc. etc. display their products.(LOOK IT UP- Its called Health and Fitness Business Expo) These retailers compare and contrast all of the various manufacturer’s products and choose the lines that they feel offer the best quality at the best price. Many of these retail store owners have been selling fitness equipment for 20 + years. They often act as a mediator between you and the product manufacturer. They honor warranties, repair products, and carry only reputable brands.
Vibraslim Europlate on the other hand is a web based product that does what many others do on the market- DECEIVE THE CUSTOMER INTO BELIEVING THAT THEIR MACHINES ARE RESEARCHED AND USED BY CELEBRITIES!
Do not buy into the marketing hype– When looking at a companies’ website– go to their research section and look for research that actually indicates that thier specific brand and model of product was used in research. Outside of Powerplate, Medvibe-Nitrofit, Vibraflex/Galileo, Bosco-Nemes, I-tonic and Pnuemex- Most products have no research backing them. Rather you will find that they all site research in their websites done on other products. These website based vibration machine companies hope that you assume that a list of research somehow includes their product–WRONG!
HERE ARE A FEW WAYS TO SPOT GOOD COMPANIES IN A SEA OF BAD ONES.
1.Call them up and ask for specific research done with the brand and model machine they are trying to sell you.
2. Look for a list of fitness stores where they sell their machines. If you can’t find it on their site call and ask. Vibration is a fairly new technology for home users in the U.S. They may not have a retailer near you. But if they do have a fairly long list of retailers, I would buy from them. At least you will have some piece of mind knowing they are reputable and trustworthy enough to have that many retail stores carry them.
3. Look them up on better business bureau- If they have anything under a B rating stay away. If you can’t find them on BBB, try looking for other names they go by in their about us section. Often times their site may be based around a brand but their actual company name is different. If you still cant find a BBB rating then stay away from them-that means they never registered because they are afraid of getting reviewed by their disgruntled customers.
4. Look at the media and news section on their website– Click on the videos/ news articles and see if their product was in the news. Often times many websites try to fool you into believing that they have been seen in the media when its actually other companies who’s products were in the media. This is deceiving and is pretty much like saying- well my Chevy cavalier is car and so is a Ferrari– by that logic I’m going to advertise my car as being like a Ferrari. Vibration companies use this odd comparison tactic all the time to make you believe that their product is as good as the reputable companies.
5.Ask are you sold in a retail store?- If the answer is no–ask why not? If their answer seems a little vague just say thank you and hang up the phone. If their product was that great they would have made their way on to store floors by now–. Companies like Noblerex K1, T-Zone, HyperVibe etc- sell franchises–often times to people who have no fitness or rehab background and just want to make a sale. They are given a certain percentage of the sale and need to sell to you at the highest price to make any money–WATCH OUT- YOU ARE GETTING RIPPED OFF!
6. Ask about a return policy– Since these products are expensive to ship- its common for you to get a 30 day money back guarantee less shipping fees. Some companies go as far as charging you a restock fee. This is normal because they have to take back a used product and re-sell it. Its expensive for them and they now have to discount the product to be sold as used. I would once again check for review on the company before doing this–some horror stories include the customer being avoided until the 30 day period is up and then are refused a return. Once again-this is why I say tick with reputable companies.

The easiest thing in the world to lose is high quality muscle. Just stop working it and puff its gone.
If only fat was as easy.

I agree totally with your "Body composition tests and fat loss" article. I am another who noticed many fitness improvements over the period of a few weeks and no weight reduction. What kept me motivated though was I was definately getting fitter. Hills easier to climb etc. An interesting observation though is that after 2 wks of no use due to being sick I have lost some of the muscle that I had gained. B.......er. So bye for now......Im off to get my muscle back. Will check body composition again in another month. Thanks Lloyd and Mike for your advice.

Since you are already in communication with these people, ask them to give you a number of locations where their machines have been in a high turnover setting for at least a year. If the machines are starting to look beaten up, then they are probably not going to last the distance.
Important Note: Make sure the studio is not a sales set-up. Aka.... They are agents for selling equipment to the customers, the same $2000 machines they have on their floor. Because they actually pick them up for about $80 , so it is worth their while to replace any machines that break down in the "fake studio" once a month.
The Crazy-Fit style machines should raise alarm bells straight away.
Where do you live and what brands were you looking at already ?

Hello Lloyd, this is Cynthia, hope you remember me.
I just received my Nitrofit Deluxe, and today was my first experience. I like it.
I did exercises for 10 minutes with a poster that they send me.
Can you please tell me a link where I can see more exercises or classes.
Thank you so much for your help. I am very happy with my new machine. This made me start with my exercises. I need to recover my muscle tone after my surgery.

Dr. Marco Cardinale in my opinion has no business writing about this subject. Being one of the original screw ups to pretend to know what he was doing , while ignoring my recommendations ( that him and his academic mates now admit were spot on. )
This was a quote from him in 2007 clearly showing no commitment to moving forward on this science ....
" I am actually very fed-up with this vibration situation and I think I will start dedicating less and less time to vibration exercise not only on the blog but also research wise.
"
So it will the same old shit, just a different book. ( unless they have just stolen more of my work and called it their own )
And in response to Power Plate using his name on their fake Medical Advisory Board ....
" Good for them if they have used my reputation, it means they are much smarter then me. "
What a legend. He actually congratulates and respects Power Plate for lying to people and ripping them off ( and that would have included plenty of athletes ) With his profile he could have helped us clean up the industry, ( I did ask ) . And considering he was one of the guys that "forgot" to report that machines were not functioning properly in his research, I thought it was only fair he helped clean up the mess.
Maybe his next book can be on how to be a spineless git.
